Sampling in Spring 2025

Between April 7 and May 20, 2025, the first sampling campaign of the BIOMES project was successfully completed. In total, 18 sites across different habitat types were sampled — including floodplain forests, meadows, forests, moors, and agricultural fields. Thanks to stable weather conditions, all samples could be collected under ideal circumstances.

The extraction of soil samples using Berlese funnels has already been completed. The samples are currently undergoing further analysis:

  • Mites (Acari) and springtails (Collembola) have already been pre-sorted and documented.

  • The identification of myriapods (Chilopoda and Diplopoda) is currently in progress.

The next step will involve detailed taxonomic identification and evaluation of the biological soil indicators. The second sampling campaign is planned for autumn 2025.

We would like to thank everyone involved for their dedicated support and will keep you up to date on the progress of the project.
